The LinkedIn Hacks You Need to Grow Your Brand!

Are you looking to grow your personal brand on LinkedIn and build connections? Do you have goals set but don’t know how to get there?

At #samsales, we’ve learned how to master LinkedIn, how to work the algorithm, and how to make the most out of your brand. But, we’re also about sharing the wealth! If you’re interested in picking up these tips too, read on!

The first thing you need to do is stand out, and right now, it’s easier than ever.

Only one percent of LinkedIn members post content once a week or more.

For anyone in marketing or sales, this means that LinkedIn is still a platform that still (even in 2022) doesn’t have too much competition or noise. And the best part – it’s free!

An easy way to jump into posting on LinkedIn is to post at least once a week. It’s most intuitive to start a new habit at the start of the new year, a new month, or a new week. Most people will try to start posting on LinkedIn on a Monday.

That’s why our advice is to wait until Tuesday to contribute, especially if you’re not a frequent poster. The difference in posting on a Tuesday versus a Monday is a game-changer and helps beat the algorithm by making your post stick out from the crowd.

Want to stand out even more? Try posting on the weekend.

We know – it’s the weekend. But because it’s a sleepy Saturday or Sunday, you will often find a completely new audience – one you might not have ever connected with on weekdays.

At #samsales, we send out our newsletter on Fridays, and sometimes send out marketing campaigns on Sundays. The goal is to send out quality content at a time when your audience is not being inundated with a dozen different voices.

Don’t think it’ll work? Try it and watch that open rate soar!

Not only does it matter when we post, but how we post. We have three easy tips for posting better on LinkedIn.

1). Link in Comments

It’s all too easy to link articles or events the wrong way on LinkedIn, which just tells the algorithm that you want to redirect users from LinkedIn. This means that the algorithm hides the post that you just worked so hard to create.

  • We recommend writing a new post about the article or event, including a related image, and then dropping the original link in the comments section.
  • It’s important to include an image related to the link that catches users’ attention, and we often pull the image directly from the link itself.

2). Don’t Bury the Lede

When writing a post, think about the visible structure of that post and how it’s going to appear on the screen. On LinkedIn, only five lines appear. After that, it’s three dots, asking the reader to click on them to read the rest of the story. When your network clicks on those dots to see more of what you posted, it signals to LinkedIn that your profile is encouraging engagement on its platform; and the algorithm loves engagement!

One of our favorite techniques to prompt engagement is by posing a question, and then answering it. This is the easiest way to get the most people interested and engaged in what we have to say in a genuine, authentic way.

3). Don’t Hit That Share Button

Whatever you do, don’t just hit that share button, even if it’s tempting! This tip throws marketers the most because the share button is the easiest tool in the social media toolbox, but it’s also one that really ticks off the algorithm.

Instead of hitting the share button, create a new post.

LinkedIn truly values original content, not mindless shares. When users hit the share button, they’re repurposing old content, not creating new.

If you truly love the post, copy the link to the post, and then write a new post about it.

  • Tag the original creator and inspire conversation about both the original post and your own.
  • If you must hit share, at least tag the original poster and write a sentence about how much you loved it.
  • Never just hit “share” and run.

Keeping these simple tips in mind can really overhaul your presence on the platform and completely change the organic engagement of your network! Happy posting!
