With 31 years in tech, Linda Thackeray spends her days creating opportunities, cultivating growth mindsets, and hacking innovative techniques. Officially, she manages The Garage locations in North America and Europe. Unofficially, Thackeray claims her title as Senior Director of Awesome. The Microsoft Garage is part of the Technology and Research group (T+R) and is a vibrant community of people who embrace resources that propel hack culture, innovation, and skilling.
In her 25+ years at Microsoft (ask about the M&Ms tradition!), Thackeray has learned how to find nuggets of innovative gold that allow her to enrich employees’ lives through programs and opportunities that enable them to grow and thrive in their roles. One of the highlights of her career has been developing and managing the annual Global Hackathon – the largest private hackathon in the world that brings employees and interns from all over the company together to create, innovate, and hack on ideas that inspire them. Thackeray has held roles in the Developer group, Microsoft IT, the Windows division, and Worldwide Operations, and her expertise covers products, customer service, operations, technical communities, engineering events, and hacker communities and facilities. However, her favorite zone of expertise is knowing how to inspire and motivate those around her to creativity and innovation, and her current role as Sr. Director allows her to do just that.
